Córdoba gov't says TV spot ‘an insult’ to the province
González affirmed the television ad can be seen as retaliation taken against the possible presidential candidacy of the province’s Governor José Manuel de la Sota for the 2015 national elections.
During the spot, which was aired on the state-run channel 7, the national government warns the province it will not cover its pension debts.
“To respond to our demands with a televised spot during a football match halftime constitutes an insult to the province of Córdoba.”
“It would have been easier to give us a face to face answer after eight months of negotiations”, the official complained during a radio interview.
González also accused the national government of carrying out a political agenda by slashing the help for the pension debt payments.
“If there's any presidential aspirations by De La Sota, it shouldn’t be on focus now. Does the entire province deserve to be punished for that?”
“What strikes us the most is the method by which things are done: a public punishment for all Córdoba citizens, and the willingness of bringing state issues to a football match”, González concluded.
