Subway workers to go on strike
UTA train and subway drivers union will go on a 72 hour strike beginning on Monday, due to their wage demands not being met by Metrovías concessionary company. Labour Minister Carlos Tomada warned the national Government will not intervene in the conflict.
Earlier today, Subway and tram workers' union (AGSTYP) head Néstor Segovia affirmed today that they could well take strike action, due to their wage demands not being met and that a decision would be reached between “today and Monday.”
Subway union delegate Roberto Pianelli explained that Metrovías subway company “has no means to pay for the workers’ salaries, not to mention a wage hike, because they don’t have a feedback from the Buenos Aires City government either.”
Meanwhile, Labour Minister Carlos Tomada responded to the threats by saying the national government would not intervene.
“We are no intervening, there is still a direct negotiation to be carried out among the parts involved and, besides, it is a problem that falls into the hands of the Buenos Aires City government”, the Minister remarked.
