Salta deaths: Family members dismiss suicide hypothesis

Luján Peñalva (19) and Yanina Nüesch (16).

Family members of Luján Peñalva, the 19-year-old girl who was found dead with her friend in Salta on Monday, expressed serious doubt over the investigator’s “suicidal pact” hypothesis, stating that the deaths could be put down to a “double homicide.”

“The family has no doubt over the fact that this was a double homicide,” said René Gómez today, the lawyer representing the parents of the young woman who was an aspiring singer who had appeared on a national television reality singing show.

The lawyer made the statements today to the local press, sustaining that there were some confusing circumstances as to the way in which the girl’s bodies were found.

“For me personally, I don’t believe that the two girls would hang themselves at the same time, with rope unclear as to where it came from,” Gómez said.
