The biggest search engine on the web, Google, commemorated today Francisco Pascasio Moreno, Argentine naturalist, scientist, politician and explorer who introduced the Scout movement to the country on their home page.
The commemoration comes on the explorer’s birthday, as he was born on May 31, 1852.
In 1872 the Moreno took to exploring the Patagonia region of Argentina, and was fascinated by what he discovered. At the time that he was exploring, the Argentine barely had any control over the area.
In 1912 he created the Argentine Boy Scouts Association and in the same year was named vicepresident of the National Education Council.
Moreno died on November 22, 1919 at the age of 67, and was buried at the famous Recoleta Cemetary initially. In 1944 his remains were moved to Centinela Island at the Lago Nahuel Huapi.
