Ex president underwent emergency surgery
‘It’s been a very quiet night for the ex president,’ surgeon said
Surgeon Víctor Caramutti approached the media early this morning and reconfirmed that the carotid artery surgery intervention that Former President Néstor Kirchner underwent last night at the Los Arcos clinic was a "true success", and added that "Mr. Néstor Carlos Kirchner spent a quiet night as no complications were detected."
The physician also explained that there is nothing to be alarmed about as the intervention was "a routine surgery", and remembered that "Kirchner already had an ulcerated plaque in the right carotid artery."
The surgeon went further and explained that this type of surgery is usually conducted "to avoid a stroke or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), it's like being one step forward in time as we try to resolve the problem before it even has the chance to arise, put this way: it's like taking someone into heart surgery to avoid a heart attack."
"These are routine surgeries, and very common nowadays. Surgeries like the one Kirchner underwent are somehow product of modern society as the main causes could be: high stress, nicotine poisoning, a sedentary life, and hypertension.
It was also revealed that the now Victory Front lawmaker was conscious when taken out from the operating room.
Kirchner was taken to the hospital after a medical issue related to complications with an artery. After examination, doctors decided that surgery was needed.
The ex Argentine president had a complication in his right carotid artery, one of the two main arteries in the neck that carries blood from the heart to the head.
Former president was accompanied by his wife President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and their sons Máximo and Florencia, who left the clinic around 03am.
Several ministers and national politicians were also present at the clinic.
